Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to At-Takwin: Journal of Islamic Education Studies undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure scholarly integrity, academic quality, and relevance to the journal's focus and scope.

1. Initial Screening

Each submitted manuscript is first assessed by the editorial board to verify its relevance to the journal’s focus and compliance with the author guidelines. Manuscripts not aligning with the journal’s scope or exhibiting more than 30% similarity (plagiarism) will be rejected at this stage. Formatting, citation style, and completeness of submission will also be checked. Manuscripts that require formatting revision will be returned to the author before proceeding to peer review.

2. Reviewer Assignment

If the manuscript passes the initial screening, it will be assigned to at least two to three independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant area. At-Takwin applies a double-blind review system, in which neither the authors nor the reviewers are aware of each other’s identity. Authors must ensure that names, affiliations, acknowledgments, and identifying self-citations are excluded from the main manuscript and placed in a separate title page file. Reviewers are selected based on academic qualifications, institutional independence, and lack of conflict of interest.

3. Review Evaluation

Reviewers are given two weeks to provide a detailed assessment of the manuscript, focusing on:

  • Scientific quality and methodological rigor
  • Originality and contribution to the field of Islamic education
  • Clarity of presentation and coherence of arguments
  • Relevance to the journal's scope

Reviewers will recommend one of the following decisions: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject, along with constructive comments.

4. Editorial Decision

The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the handling editor, will make the final decision based on reviewer feedback. If reviewers provide significantly divergent recommendations, a third review may be solicited. The editorial decision will be communicated to the author within one month of submission via the journal's platform.

5. Revision and Resubmission

Authors invited to revise their manuscripts must respond thoroughly to each reviewer’s comment and highlight all changes in the revised document. A rebuttal letter explaining the responses must also be submitted.

  • Minor revisions: 2 weeks
  • Major revisions: 4 weeks

Major revisions will typically undergo a second round of review by the same reviewers.

6. Publication

Once accepted, the manuscript will be processed for copyediting, layout formatting, and final proofing before publication. The expected time from acceptance to publication is 2 to 4 weeks.
